Your first visit

Drop-ins are welcome during open hours unless otherwise noted on the calendar. No making experience is required.

  1. Check in with the staff member at the welcome desk near the entrance.
  2. Complete a brief registration and self-paced orientation. If you completed it before arriving, staff can confirm that it has been received.
  3. Talk with staff about your ideas and the equipment you would like to use.

After your first visit, sign in each time you come. Sign-in information supports reporting for funding, staffing, and programming.

What to bring

A laptop is helpful for digital fabrication, but shared workstations are available. There are no general clothing requirements.

Tools & shared resources

Explore textiles, digital fabrication, electronics, and handcrafts. Ask staff about the equipment and materials for your project.

Tool access is generally first come, first served during drop-in hours. Reservations for selected equipment are coming soon.

Materials & machine use

Materials and machine use are free within reasonable limits. Some supplies have specific usage limits. Staff may limit access to supplies or equipment to keep resources available to the whole community.

Personal and coursework projects are welcome. The Makery cannot support ongoing commercial production, such as fulfilling orders for an online store.

Planning a large project? Email staff in advance to discuss the scope, arrange a usage schedule, and get recommendations for materials you can purchase.

Project storage

A limited number of cubbies are available to check out for one quarter at a time. Ask staff about availability.

Who can use the Makery?

Community members with an active Stanford affiliation may use the space.

  • Ages 13–17: minors may visit and use the space with a guardian present at all times.
  • Ages 12 and under: children generally cannot use the space. Visits require prior approval.

Getting here

ANKO building, basement level, Room 007

485 Lasuen Mall, Stanford, CA 94305

Enter through the Lasuen Mall entrances for the most direct route to the elevator. Take the elevator to the basement; the Makery is immediately outside the elevator doors.

Wheelchair-accessible route

Use the Escondido Mall doors in the courtyard between the RAIKES and ANKO GSE buildings, then continue to the elevator and take it to the basement.
